Michael W. Maguire (a.k.a. Mickey Maguire)
After high school I pursued two simultaneous career paths. I worked my way into business management while I started my own fly fishing wholesale company (Magfly). I have held management positions in retail, entertainment, hospitality, and logistics over the years. My fly fishing business earned me some notoriety and I was thrilled to work in a worldfamous fly fishing school in the Catskill Mountains in upstate New York for a decade. It was there that I managed a fly fishing resort that was rated one of the top twenty fly fishing destinations in the world. Along the way, I was ordained and “preached” for several years while I still maintained a business career and my fly fishing wholesale company. I had a band that I formed in 1980 and played music in the Columbus area for a few years. When I went East to teach fly fishing I hooked up with a few musicians in the Pocono Mountains (eastern Pennsylvania). We formed a band playing Irish music and my own original songs. In the early 1990s I released two albums and taught fly fishing by day and played music by night. I returned to Columbus, Ohio to be near my family in December of 1997 and started working as a senior computer tech and technical writer for Micro Center Corporate offices in Hilliard. Four years later, I was laid off. I worked business management for a couple more years before taking an offer with a company in Grove City as an inventory analyst. I started a publishing business in 2001 (Tricorn Publications). Yes, another parallel career path... In the mid 1980s I started writing articles for various magazines. I also wrote countless biblical studies and was editor-in-chief of two different biblical study newspapers. In the late 1980s through the mid 1990s, I wrote lots of articles freelance and I wrote ad copy and did freelance graphic design work for various businesses. I also crafted killer resumes for executive-level management. In 1994, I became editor-in-chief for Connections Magazine, a computer networking and internet technology publication. I did that along with the fly fishing work I was doing until I returned to Columbus. My freelance work also included photo-journalism. I earned a spot in Who’s Who In America multiple times for my photographic works. As a songwriter, I became a professional member of ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers). Samples of my music can be found here: http://www.tricornpublications.com/music.htm. Here are some samples of my photography work (landscapes and more): http://www.tricornpublications.com/gallery.htm. I have written several books. The first was “The Age of Stupidity” and it is out of print. I have several books available on Amazon. Here is a link to several books that are currently available: http://www.tricornpublications.com/ebooks.htm. My publishing company, Tricorn Publications website also provides a link to my “Get Happy, Write Away” blog. This blog is in support of the teachings in my book of the same name. There is also a podcast that is slowly growing content (slower than I’d like at the moment). I publish Ukulele Player Magazine, available here: http://www.tricornpublications.com/uke_player.htm Here is a promo page and brief bio online: http://home.earthlink.net/~magfly/. I have a mini e-book available that I give away on finding a job and preparing a resume. It can be downloaded free from this link: http://www.tricornpublications.com/the_hunt.pdf A couple other notes: I started using the name “Mickey Maguire” years ago due to confusion between me and a boat captain named “Mike Maguire” in the fly fishing business. I also used the name in the music business as a songwriter and performer. I have made lots of friends in the music business and they all know me as “Mickey” (and what could be more Irish). I am on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mickey-maguire-bb7a8123? trk=nav_responsive_tab_profile. I am on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/mickey.maguire.1232. You’ll find me on Twitter as URWhatUDream. I am currently writing two new books: Ninja Mind Tricks (Take Control of Your Life with the Secret Mental Powers of Japan’s Shinobi Warriors). I was a student of the 34th Grand Master of a 900 year old martial arts tradition and really embraced the mental disciplines involved with it. This book teaches those mental disciplines to non-martial artists and martial artists alike. The second book is Somehow We Manage, a book about the decline of business sense in America. Hobbies include the following: Cycling, hiking, landscape photography, music, pen & ink sketch, charcoal sketch, pencil drawing, watercolor painting, calligraphy, graphic design, photo restoration and image editing. I have also done several of these professionally for many years. |
